Bomb Threat

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack is the use of a “homemade” bomb and/or destructive device to destroy, incapacitate, harass, or distract. IEDs can come in many forms, ranging from a small pipe bomb to a sophisticated device capable of causing massive damage and loss of life.

If You Receive a Bomb Threat Over the Phone:

  • Stay calm and keep your voice calm.
  • Pay close attention to details and obtain as much information as possible.
  • Take notes: Record every word spoken by caller, background noise, ask questions.
    • If you have time take notes on the Bomb Threat Checklist.
  • If possible, alert someone nearby by note requesting their assistance or to call 911.
  • Attempt to identify the caller’s number and write it down.
  • Call 911 or CSUPD immediately and give them your notes.
  • If the bomb threat is made electronically or with a hard copy, do your best to preserve the material without deleting, forwarding, or handling it.

If a Device has been Found:

  1. Call 911 and follow all instructions.
  2. Ensure no one touches the device.
  3. Isolate the area where the device is located and initiate evacuations as necessary.
