Fire

In the event you discover fire or smoke is visible:

  • Evacuate the building using the nearest exit.
  • Activate the fire alarm at the nearest pull station on your way out if the alarm is not yet activated.
    • When the building goes into alarm it will automatically dispatch CSU Police and Poudre Fire Authority.
  • Exit in an orderly fashion and follow evacuation procedures. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS. If you can do so safely, assist others who may need help evacuating.
    • Close all doors to confine smoke and fire.
  • Go to designated emergency evacuation assembly area and check in with supervisor.

Shelter-in-Place:

In the event you are unable to leave a room, you will need to shelter-in-place.

  • Feel the door. If the door is hot to the touch and/or smoke is seeping in, DO NOT OPEN IT.
  • Place items like clothing or other materials at the base of the door or wherever smoke may be entering into the room.
  • Walls, ceilings, floors, and doors are designed to withstand fire for a safe period of time.
  • Let someone know where you are. Call 911 and stay on the line until the dispatcher tells you to hang up. If there is no phone available, gain attention by waving or yelling out a window.
  • Stay low to the floor or near a window as smoke will fill higher areas first.
